Creative Exercise #2

Characterization

By now, you should all be hard at work on your first nonfiction assignment! And as you'll have read in  Bird by Bird,  telling YOUR truth  is one of the most critical aspects (Lamott would say MOST critical). In the comments below, write an OKCupid profile for yourself - or the central focus of your nonfiction piece  (could by your grandfather, sister, best friend, an anonymous crush...  Be as creative as you like (doesn't have to be aimed at dating).  Be sure to also make a comment on a classmate's response for full credit.

Hello! I value my privacy. This is why I do not have picture posted. You should judge me by my money. I am manager at successful company, looking to get promoted to regional manager soon. I am average guy with average looks. Nothing special about me, except money. I have no life, so I am here looking for someone to take my mind off money.

What am I doing with my life? Making money, its all I have right now that interest me. I make money, I invest, I make more money, so when I am old, I do not have to work. I work to escape the cog in the machine.

What am I really good at? Making money, It’s a gift, I have a natural talent. Its like ping pong. By hearing the sound of the paddle hit and return, I know who will score a point, how it was it. Same with world market. I hear something, and I understand how it will affect something else, financially.

The first thing people notice about me, is my weight and my acne. Then people notice how I dress, the car I drive. You will like my car. If not for my materials, like my car and house, you would not give me time day. The first and last thing people notice about me, is my money.

Six things I could not do with out: Money, cars, clothes, house, food, face cream.

I spend a lot of time thinking about how I could get girls attracted to me without my money.

I’m looking for a surface shallow girl with out confidence and self-esteem who doesn’t care what I look like because I have money.

You should message me if you are a surface shallow girl with out confidence and self-esteem who doesn’t care what I look like because I have money and willing to have a good time.

    **Note:
Every backstory, cover, legend has to be based on a core truth, it must have a grain of truth. I value my privacy, My house is not on Google maps, my Facebook profile is false. My phone number is unlisted. I am sensitive about data collection, the information I put out there, because I know what can be done with it to profile people, to guess passwords, to stalk someone. If you post a lot of pictures and have not turned off the geo-tagging feature of your phone, using a coordinate map of your city listed on facebook, someone can extrapolate that data, where you live, stalk you, and plan to do you harm. Your private meta data isn’t safe.

    1. Tometria Jackson

Wow! Your note at the end of your character summary totally strikes a chord with me. I’m suspicious about sites like Facebook where so much personal data is compiled, and sold to businesses that use it to directly market to the individual. In this cyber age, information is power, and I’m hesitant to just hand it over and trust that the recipient means me no harm. Even now as I type this, the camera on my laptop is covered because I know that they can be hacked. You can never be too cautious!

    2. Delaney E Reece

Although I appreciate the direction you were able to take with this assignment, I can’t help but be a little bit confused as to who you’re writing this description of. As I understand it it’s not a description of you, but then who is it? I would be really interested in reading your nonfiction piece because I’d love to see how this person fits into that and how you could describe them further.

  2. Jess Young

    Summary:
Hi everyone, my name is Jess and I’m completely unavailable! I’m happily married, have a toddler, work full-time and then some, go to school part-time, and have a nasty habit of saying “yes” to opportunities that come my way. When I say I’m completely unavailable, I mean it… I’m solidly booked for the next five years!

What I’m doing with my life:
At this point in my life, I’m working towards my bachelor’s degree which will be followed up immediately by my master’s in Emergency Management. I’m a career paramedic, which means I work 24 hours at a time but I also get two weeks off a month, so no complaints! When I’m not working or doing classwork, I’m trying to squeeze in time with my family and keep up with my ever-messy house. My “me-time” is spent exercising as a way to blow off steam and stay in shape; I spend tons of time on my bike, training for triathlons and other races, travelling, playing hockey and softball, and planning out adventures. I’m trying to set a good example for my daughter and show her she can do anything she works for.

    I’m really good at:
Planning and organization. When faced with a problem, I tend to formulate a solution very quickly. Also, I’m a good cook and love to feed people!

The first thing people notice about me:
People say I’m very driven, which I suppose is true… I think I’m just goal oriented. I’ve been told many times that people are intimidated by me initially, which I find funny because I feel very awkward and uncomfortable when meeting new people.

Six things I couldn’t do without:
    – My family
    – My bikes (Fat, Road, Mountain)
    – My best friend
    – Goals
    – Adventures
    – Coffee

I spend a lot of time thinking about:
What I’m doing next and how to accomplish that. If I’m sitting in front of a computer with nothing to do, I’m looking at airline tickets, classes, races, and how much overtime I need to pay for it.

    I’m looking for:
An adventure buddy! Message me if you want to go do something crazy and new!

    1. Kelsey

Cheers to the awkward turtles in social situations! 😀
I love that you do triathlons, that is amazing! I’m also an organization freak…I’m going shopping soon for my 2018/2019 planner and I’m a little too excited! Lists, calendars, and coffee…the way to my heart!

    2. Courtney Kisner

Wow, 24 hour shifts sound difficult! I totally understand the ever-messy house statement, I’m at work so much that the house falls to shambles when I’m not there haha. You sound so incredibly busy, which is very admirable. It’s really cool that you stay so active, I want to try a triathlon someday but first I would need to get better at swimming. Exercise is a great way to de-stress. It’s nice to meet you!

  3. Kelsey

    Self summary:
I am a 27 year old female. I wear a lot of hats and go by several titles. Mom. Wife. Chef. Baker. Animal lover. Crafter wannabe. DIY project lover. Foodie. Book lover. Yoga pants enthusiast. Survivor. Student. Teacher. Advocate for children. Breastfeeding advocate and educator.

What I’m doing with my life:
I find it fascinating how much a brain develops before age 5. I believe early educators teach the foundations of learning, along with teaching how to be good, social humans. I am getting two degrees so that I am better suited to teach children. I am raising my own two kiddos the best that I can, helping them become loving, smart, and independent thinkers.

    I’m really good at:
I love to organize, make lists, and generally over analyze most things in life. I am outstanding at being neurotic and arriving early. I’m good at making homemade pizzas, cakes, and other delicious treats. I’m good at breastfeeding, which sounds like a weird statement, until you try to do it and find out the challenges you face. I’ve figured out how to be good at it, and enjoy talking to women through the challenges of nursing and helping them nurse their babies as long as they wish to. I’m also good at finding new restaurants and breweries and I also excel at online shopping.

The first thing people notice about me:
I think that the first things people notice about me is that I have kids. They’re usually with me and a lot cuter to look at!

Six things I couldn’t do without:
Pizza, La croix, my kids, books, coffee, dogs.

I spend a lot of time thinking about:
Food, my kids (am I repetitive or what?), home improvement projects, the future.

    I’m looking for:
Witty banter, comedic relief, my sanity.

    You should message me if:
You like any of the things I talked about above, would like a friend who doesn’t have much time to offer other than tagging you in funny memes on Facebook and texting conversations, and/or you are a dog.

    1. Lilia Lundquist

I don’t think I have related to anything more than your statement of “I love to organize, make lists, and generally over analyze most things in life.” My friends are constantly labeling me as OCD because I feel the need to make everything neat and my definition of perfect. I also find your skill of locating breweries to be especially useful! Who doesn’t love a cold brewski.

    2. Jess Young

“I am outstanding at being neurotic and arriving early. ” We might be soul-mates.
Want to have a contest to see who can over-analyze a situation more??

Your post made me laugh! Nice to meet you!

    3. Meghan Geary

I giggled a few times reading this, thank you for that! If you ever want to get together and try a new restaurant or brewery, that’s my forte. Kiddos more than welcome, to the restaurants at least! I love that you found something you know you’re good at and help other women to excel at that, too.

  4. Natalee Fleming

    Self- Summary
I am nineteen years old, I was born in Wichita Falls, Texas. About two years later I moved to the Azores, then came Germany where my little brother was born, next came Washington State where I lived for six years, and then came to my last stop as an Air Force child Alaska. I moved up to Alaska my freshmen year of high school and finished my high school years at Ben Eielson Jr. Sr. High. This now brings me brings me to my life right now.

    Right Now
Right now, I am in the summer before my junior year of college. I’m going to school to become an elementary teacher, as a teacher I’d like to teach second or third grade. I’d like to stay here in the Fairbanks North Star Borough and teach. I have two schools in mind that might want to teach at Anderson Elementary on Eielson, AFB or I really liked Weller Elementary off Chena Hot Springs road. I have chosen these schools, but am not limited to these ones, because I think the environment.

    Good At
    1. Organizing, keeping my stuff organized and helping others organize
    2. Helping others
    3. Driving a five-speed car
    4. Teaching others

    What People Notice About Me
The first thing people notice about me is not about my physical appearance. They notice how childish I am. On the outside, I look like a normal nineteen-year-old, but once you get to know me I am very childish. Therefore, I believe in the saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover.”

Six Things I Can’t Do Without
    I can’t do without:
    1. Coloring books and pencils
    2. My friends
    3. Food (I get hangry if I go a long time without eating)
    4. My Bible
    5. Music
    6. Disney
I Spend a lot of Time Thinking About
I spend a lot of my thinking about what I need for my future classroom, I think about the books that I will need, the supplies I’ll need to have for my students, how I will pay for the things my students need. If I’m not thinking about my future classroom then I am thinking about how I am going to make my friends lives better or easier.

    I’m Looking for
I am looking for someone that is supportive of my dreams. Someone that is a great listener and can help me when I am struggling with. The last thing that I am looking for in a person is that they must be a Christian.

    You Should Message Me if…
You should message me if you enjoy talkative, Disney singing girl. Who lives off words of affirmation and physical touch. Who enjoys reading child’s book for fun and is supportive of any dream that I can think of.

    1. Kait Topkok

Aw, another Disney fan, I love Disney! I grew up trying to be the princesses and sing like them. I like reading about the Easter eggs about Disney like Rapaunzel and Eugene show up in a scene in Frozen or Hercules and Ariel are cousins. I also want to be an elementary teacher, mostly because I was inspired by one of my former teachers who taught at my village, since my oldest sister was a baby. A part of my family lives in Fairbanks, it so pretty there! I like how the weather changes like pretty cold in the winter, but super warm in the summer.

  5. Kait Topkok

    Summary:

Hey there, my name is Kait and I am 21 years old. I am Inupiaq Eskimo, also the youngest sister out of nine, so I’m always with my nieces and nephews. We’re always outside, picking berries, fishing or just walking. I love to play music and sing (mostly alone, but I’ve sang for a crowd before). This is the first summer (since I was 9) that I’m not spending it in Nome with my sister and her family. I’ve lived in Alaska my whole life, but I hope to travel out of state soon!

    With my life:

I am a teacher’s aide at my local high school, but we’re on summer break, so I’m helping out with summer school for four weeks. Taking classes to finish my general education requirements and earn a bachelors degree in elementary education.

    I’m really good at:

Baking baked goods like cookies, donuts and pie.

The first thing people notice about me is:

    How enormously tall I am.

I cannot go without my family, crazy amazing friends, music, GarageBand, books and my hymn book.

I spend a lot of time walking my dogs, Charlie and Marley, spending time with my sisters and baking goods for my big family.

I found what I was looking for, a kind, supportive, smart man. I’ve been in a relationship for a year and a half.

If you want to have an adventure on a road trip around the lower 48’s or any other place outside of Alaska, then you should message me!

    1. nmfleming

Wow youngest out of nine! I don’t know if I could have done that I lose my mind with just one sibling. You mentioned that your a teacher aid at your high school but your going for your Bachelors in Elementary Education is it a big change to go from kids who can pretty much do everything by themselves to needing to help kids tie their shoes? Also, I’ve been several places in my life and I will say Alaska is my all time favorite place I’ve been, when I first moved up here I hated it I said I was going back home (Washington State), but now I want to make Alaska my home.

  6. Courtney Kisner

    Self Summary:
Hello! My name is Courtney and I’m 24. I was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska but I am currently living in Georgia with my boyfriend and our two dogs. I graduated from UAA with my BA in Psychology in 2017, and I am currently taking summer classes for prerequisites (plus a couple other fun classes) before I apply to an accelerated nursing program this fall.

What I’m doing with my life:
Right now I’m in school online “full-time” and I also work as a CNA at a memory care facility for individuals with dementia. I work 12 hour night shifts, so I’m a bit of a night owl now. But it gives me time to get some schoolwork done!

    I’m really good at:
    Taking care of others.

The First thing people notice about me:
    My quiet demeanor.

Six things I couldn’t do without:
Though people and pets aren’t “things” I couldn’t imagine a world without:
    -My family/boyfriend
-My Chihuahua (and I guess my bf’s German Shepard too)
    -A pair of running shoes
    -My wireless headphones/phone
    -The gym
    -Caffeine

I spend a lot of time thinking about:
Future plans (both short-term and long term), what I am going to eat next, and other people.

    I’m looking for:
Friends/people to go on outings with.

    You should message me if:
You want a friend to talk to!

    1. Keyana

Great description of yourself. That really leaves the reader aware of your main focuses and priorities. They can see you are ambitious and that you are about people.

  7. Tometria Jackson

    Self summary:
I personally would never join a site like okcupid because I really am not comfortable revealing too much about myself to those I do not know well. I see conspiracy everywhere, and as the saying goes, “Just because you believe they’re after you doesn’t mean that it isn’t true.” I am not sure where my reserve comes from, but I guard my privacy with vigilance. I trust people, but only after I have a sense of their character.

What I’m doing with my life:
Aside from that, I’m happy to share the superficial details about myself that are public knowledge. I’m the mother of four and happily married to my best friend. He and I are total opposites, but somehow it works. I decided on a career change a few years ago, and so I’m pursuing a bachelor’s Degree in Social Work with a minor in Justice. My hope is to work in the Juvenile Justice System and so some good in the world.

    I’m really good at:
Having been raised in a large family, I’m pretty outgoing, and I’m good at putting others at ease. I’m also aware of the feelings and moods of others and will do what I can help them feel at home. Recreationally, I love to read, sew, garden, decorate, and repurpose furniture.

The first thing people notice about me:
Apparently, I have a nice smile. I’m often complimented on it, and I do agree that it’s my best feature.

Six things I couldn’t do without:
The six absolute necessities in life (aside from my loved ones) are: my Bible, my Kindle, my phone, hot baths, cups of delicious crushed ice, and my own bed.

I spend a lot of time thinking about:
This sounds morbid, but I think about what happens after death. People spend all of their lives working hard and accumulating things, but in the last instant of life, what do they truly hold dear? I’m reminded of the words of Christ, “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?” That one thought helps me prioritize what is truly important.

    I’m looking for:
In a word, peace. Peace in my mind, body, and soul which is a state of being that is without price.

    You should message me if:
You’re a kindred spirit . If you value relationships and are willing to invest your time in them. If you can see beauty in the simple things of life, and stop to appreciate them. If you are kind to children, realizing that your kindness may have a lifelong impact in their lives. If you realize that everything you hold in this life is fleeting. If you agree, by all means, contact me!

    1. Angela Rodriguez

I am totally with you on being a reserved person. I don’t have social media or anything because I don’t like putting myself out there! It’s nice to see that there are others who can appreciate privacy here.

  8. Lilia Lundquist

Hello, my name is Lilia I am 21 and born and raised in Alaska. I have no interest in any sort of romantic relationship, as I can barely handle myself. I currently am not too sure what I am doing with my life (who is honestly??) I really enjoy constant change and plan to travel for an extensive period after earning my degree. Unfortunately, I have not dedicated the hours of posing and editing needed to be an Instagram model and won’t be able to have companies pay me to travel. So, I have considered teaching English as a foreign language in order to not become homeless in an unfamiliar country. For the time being I spend most of my days outside with my dogs and surrounding myself with other people. I thrive on social experiences and feel that my friends and family are my main reason for living. I also love plants and spend far more time and money than I really should gardening. I don’t mean to brag but I am really good at speeding and making my passengers very uncomfortable. Though I only have one speeding ticket on my record. I would argue that the first thing people notice about me is my hair. I’m a red head with an extreme emotional attachment to my hair and therefore rarely cut it. I also usually have my dogs with me and they tend to draw quite a bit of attention.
Six things I couldn’t do without:
My mother (she is the most amazing woman in my world)
Apples & peanut butter; that’s almost all I ever eat
    Oversized t-shirts
    Mountains
The smell of the air when a new season is in full swing (literally gives me life)
Being able to attain an education, learning is so cool and is great for personal development
I spend a lot of time thinking about the idea of sonder. (Apparently it is not a legitimate word, but I like to think of it as one.) I really like people watching and creating background stories for strangers. I think this has been a good technique to help me better understand empathy. Not that I’m a sociopath, but I think that’s something you can never stop learning more about. I am looking for new places to hike as well as good books and am open to any ideas. You should message me if you know any cheesy jokes because those are equivalent to gold for me.

    1. Draven

It is really comforting, knowing that there are others that can barely handle themselves. I normally feel quite alone in that matter. It’s nice to know I’m not all by myself.

  9. Angela Rodriguez

    Self Summary

Hello everyone, I am Angela and I am 18 years old. I have lived in Alaska for 3 years from the military and I am ready to leave. Growing up, I had been forced to move frequently and I love it. Moving often has given me the opportunity to reset my life every few years and it is extremely therapeutic for me. My parents have retired here in Fairbanks, so I plan to move by myself to Texas within the next year!! Along with traveling, some of my interests include hiking, biking, competitive games and watching movie marathons!

What I am doing with my life

Honestly, I have no clue what I am doing with my life. I am going to college to explore some of my career options, while working alongside children at a local Elementary school. Working with children has taught me that I don’t want to pursue a career that focuses on working with groups of children, I would much rather work alongside individual children to focus on their individual needs. This is one of my many potential career possibilities, I am very indecisive and will likely change my major 50 times before I graduate.

    I’m really good at

I would have to say that I am good at winning! I am so competitive that I will make sure I win anything and everything. I can say that I get this competitive drive from my family. Each week, my big family will come together for a game night. We all fight to win each game and I can assure you that I am the best at winning.

The first thing people notice about me..

I am quiet. When I am meeting a new person I tend to be very quiet. I’m not insecure or nervous, I just have a hard time creating conversation with new people. If the other person starts conversation, I will open up and say everything that comes to my mind.

    6 things I couldn’t do without
    1.My Family

    2.My Bed

    3.Watermelon

    4.Hugs

    5. Friendly Neighborhood Dogs

    6.My phone

I spend a lot of my time thinking about

I find that I spend most of my time thinking about my next career or educational move. I do not like the uncertainty of the future so I try and plan everything out perfectly. Unfortunately, my indecisiveness interferes with this schedule. This makes me constantly fear the unknown.

    I am looking for

Guidance on what to do next with my life.

    You should message me if..

You have a cute dog! Plz send pics 🙂

    1. Courtney Williamson

I didn’t know what I was going to do with my life until I was . Years of partying and slacking off was fun and all but it was worth. 🙂

  10. Draven

    My self summary:
Hello, my name is Draven. I built this page on a dare and that’s where I’m leaving it. I am a fairly strange person, and furthermore I am pretty sociable too. I fit in to all my surroundings, even though my height is rather off putting. I’m a really good people person, giving too my ability to speak in a fast and constant flow of words. I’m not a very private person, and I find it easy to keep level headed in any situation.
What I’m doing with my life:
My life is, so far, keeping the people around me from going insane, as such I’m trying to become a therapist, or counselor, or psychologist, whichever one is more technical.
    I’m really good at:
Talking. Holding a worthwhile conversation, while still keeping the reigns is what I’m good at. Plus, I can cook.
The first thing people notice about me:
Probably my height, it doesn’t really help that I always wear a black sweatshirt.
Six things I couldn’t do without:
Honestly I could make do without a lot of stuff. Air, water, and food. Definitely food. Stroganoff, mac-n-cheese, sushimi, and so much more. Just remember, NO SPINACH.
I spend a lot of time thinking about:
Philosophy, psychology, and theoretical physics. Not the math physics, like science fiction physics.
    I’m looking for:
Someone who doesn’t mind smiling every day, for no reason.
    You should message me if:
You ever wonder about the mysteries of the universe. Or if you like eating, and know a good place.

  12. Courtney Williamson

I would say that I am very shy at first, and that I am more socially outgoing with males. I play video games, I am a teacher and a full time mother and student. I cook gourmet meals when I have the time. I love my drinks cold and my food hot. I like coffee with my sugar and I never finish it. I procrastinate a lot, but when I have the motivation to do something, usually during the day, I will get it done as fast as I can so that I can relax at home. I never had any friends or any true friends that I could rely on. I am a lone wolf but I love the attention that my domestic partner gives me.

What am I doing with my life? I am becoming a teacher for a public district by going to school and working as a Head Start Teacher. I am in a strong and happy relationship with my boyfriend and we are building a life and family together. I overcome obstacles that stand in my way, and when it gets rough I take a break by sleeping the stress away and fix it after I wake up haha. I am building a kingdom for me and my King.

I am really good at working with kids, cooking and drawing.

The first thing people notice about me is that I am sarcastic and I speak my mind, even when it hurts. I don’t care what anyone else thinks, I will do me and what is best for my kingdom. Also, I am very mouthy when I get involved in a heated argument or heated agreement.

    6 things I couldn’t live without:
    1. Internet
    2. My family
    3. chocolate milk
    4. pizza
    5. security of a home
    6. money

I spend a lot of time thinking about the future, and music lyrics.

I am looking for a good pair of shoes. make up, and some more clothes.

You should message me only if you have something interesting to talk about.

    1. bacouch

I wish you luck I am hoping to become a teacher as well though I couldn’t do little kids, I have one, I love him dearly but that many would be too many for me, I applaud those who can handle that workload and I thank you as a human for not only being capable but for taking care of the headstart age kids

  13. bacouch

    Self summary

My name is Brenden Couch, I am the father one wonderful baby boy! I love farming activities, raising poultry for the eggs, and experiencing all that life has to offer that is wholesome, family appropriate. I am not a religious zealot but I do follow a faith and it provides and excellent community of people to be around especially with all that goes on in the world now. In addition to my animal raising pursuits, during the winter I enjoy snowmachining and hope to pass this wonderful source of joy onto my son. Other than personal pursuits, I enjoy writing when time allows and when life permits or requires it. To me, being a good writer relies heavily on an awareness between oneself and the world, if one does not have that I do not believe they can weave a complex fictional narrative with situations realistic to the world they’ve created or relatable to the actual humans of earth who read their stories. In short I strongly enjoy the pursuit of knowledge through observation and study of the world around me as well as the people.

What I’m doing with my life
I am currently self employed as I work through school, I have the woeful job of bringing news to each people in the wee hours of the morning. I am hoping to extend my business to include other forms of delivery as well. One bonus of my job is that I can take my family along with me and so long as I don’t have to leave town I am available any day of the week so long as I accept that sleep is rare when split between child raising, working, school, animals, and other family obligations such as watching over my godson while his father is away working. I am also, ever so slowly inching my way class by class to finishing the degree that I have been working toward for 6 years now. Though I must say, that all the side trips, detours, and all other forms of infringement on this path have been worth it. It has garnered me with many unique life experiences which I am always willing to pass on or share to those with open ears and minds.

    I’m really good at
I am not sure I characterize myself as being “really” good at any one thing in particular and I feel I have a long way to go before I have attained mastery at any skill. However, if I was forced to name a skill I would say I am really good at trying, whatever it is if it is healthy and wholesome I always willing to try and to learn in the attempt.

The first thing people notice about me
hmmm? I do not know I am not them nor do I spend a lot of time surveying this field of inquiry during my personal interactions. To be smart, it is possible that perhaps when people see me they first notice that I am there. However as they get to know me I like to think that despite my own character flaws, once I consider someone a friend or consider someone to be truly in need I do my best to help without regard to myself as many in my family have noticed. This tendency really has the consistent ability to leave me, for lack of a better word, “up a river without a paddle” though I think being down river without a paddle would be worse as you can’t float against the current.

Six things I couldn’t do without
    1. I love my son, now that he is born life without him is impossible and the prospect of enduring without his brand of priceless humor is not a thought I like to entertain.
    2. I love my birds, my geese, chickens, and ducks. I have done without their hilarity before but life seems much fuller with their antics.
    3. I enjoy good literature, I enjoy well translated classics as it seems the English language can boast many successes but many of the best were not originally in english.
    4. I could potentially live without but happiness would be limited without my BBC programs that can be found on Youtube.com free of charge. Such favorites include shows with realistic if perhaps mildly exaggerated comic situations like: One Foot in the Grave, Blackadder, The Thin Blue Line (TV show), Fawlty Towers, Monty Python, Doctor Who, The Two Ronnies, Time Team, and a Bit of Fry and Laurie as well as many others as I discover them.
    5. Wide Open Space, I like good wide open places or even wonderful peaceful places endowed with beauty such as forests, deserts, mountains, all have their own blend of timeless beauty that make life far more colorful than just playing video games or indulging in other artificial worlds. Not to say that these beauties come free of charge, journeys to and from such places usually require effort to cross difficult terrain in addition your likely to have the constant company of small six legged winged blood sucking beasts, but the majesty of the place usually far exceeds the turmoil of travel if one has the mind to sit and enjoy the wonderment.
    6. I enjoy freedom from unnecessary difficulty, I find any difficult situation that isn’t going to provide meaningful growth such as debt (not to say I have incurred none) and other incumbents against happiness. I do however strive to avoid addictions, debts, and try very hard to make decisions that free me up to do the things I love, without that opportunity to be free I could not live nor would I want to, and as a side note to this bullet point, reading George Orwells 1984 made me struggle and gave me nightmares because it presented such a world of a false freedom and false happiness that was so against how I like to be.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
The universe gives me much pause and because of its magnitude of size I believe it is worth contemplation.

    I’m looking for
If I were looking, I suppose a friend who enjoys many of the joys I do would be welcome.

    You should message me if

  14. Meghan Geary

    Self Summary
Hello! My name is Meghan. I’m born and raised Alaskan, from Wasilla, but I go to school at UAF for English and Secondary Education. I’ll be graduating (God willing) next May- there is light at the end of the tunnel! I love to be outside and explore new places, and I’m always down to try a new place to eat or a craft beer.

What I’m doing with my life
Currently I am a junior at UAF. For the summer I am working part time at the Musk Ox Farm in Palmer as an interpretive guide, and as a marketing intern for the Alaska Grown program through the Division of Agriculture. Beyond graduation next May, I’m genuinely not sure what I’ll be doing with my life! My boyfriend will be heading to Sitka in July to attend the Law Enforcement Academy to become an AK State Trooper, so we have no idea where we’ll be living in the near future. It’s both exciting and terrifying. We’ll end up somewhere in Alaska, of course, but we could be in a place as urban as Palmer or Anchorage, or as rural as King Salmon or Petersburg, it’s all up in the air. I’m really excited about the opportunity to travel and see new places in Alaska I have never visited before, and while we are moving around I will continue my education through UAF. My plan now is to graduate and then begin a Master of Education in school counseling, although who knows what the future will bring!

    I’m really good at
Listening. Playing piano. Photography. Talking about Alaska. Adventuring. Driving copious amounts just to enjoy the view.
